With breathtaking lighting and compositing, Wētā FX effortlessly blends motion capture performances, computer-generated characters, and expansive post-apocalyptic settings to bring the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes universe to life.
Complex FX simulations of fire, water, and fur are used in the film’s photorealistic images to give the apes a realistic and expressive appearance. In order to improve realism and immersion, each shot is painstakingly created by combining realistic lighting with intricate compositing processes.
Wētā FX’s record of pushing the limits of digital filmmaking was further cemented when Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes won the 2025 VES Award for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Photoreal Feature, in recognition of its innovative work.
