It is directed by Emma Benestan and supervised by Lise Fischer, and this team at MPC Paris brought the visually stunning world of Animale to life by delivering breathtaking visual effects. From designing and modeling the terrifying half-bull, half-werewolf creature to determining realistic fur shaders, the technical complexity was a significant challenge that was faced in film production.
By the end of February and May 2024, the team of 20 artists accomplished 74 VFX shots of camera metadata integration and SFX extensions captured while filming. In this innovative direction, the idea was to intensify the visual experience of this film and also set a standard for creature designing within contemporary cinema.
Premiering as the closing film at the Critics’ Week during the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, Animale is getting great reviews and is also nominated for several César Awards in 2025, such as Best Visual Effects. The film by Yan Wagner’s score underscores a chase of success by Nejma in a Camargue race amidst strange disappearances due to suspected wild beast symptoms.
